FAQs
Are you a part of a denomination?

No, BridgePoint is a non-denominational church. We recognize that this may be either good or scary news, depending on your background! To get a better feel for what we stand for and what drives us, please click on the BELIEVE, LIVE & BECOME sections on this site.

What makes you different from other churches?
We recognize that there are a variety of churches. We value relationships over programs, life-change over rule-following, authentic relationships in community over impersonal tradition.

Where do you meet?
We currently lease space for Sunday morning services from St. Pete High. But a big part of our church life will happen apart from Sunday! A big part of our strategy involves meeting in home groups, neighborhoods and apartments during the week.

I’ve never been to church before - will I be comfortable?
Yes! Wear whatever’s comfortable. Our gatherings will be casual, relational and real. You won‘t be interrogated, asked to stand up or wear a "visitor” ribbon. You won’t be pressured to give money, although you will be given an opportunity to contribute if you wish to (see ‘Speaking of Money’ below).

I grew up in church - will it be familiar?
That depends on your church background. We don’t own an organ or wear robes. We don’t celebrate any formal sacramental traditions. You will hear familiar teaching from the Bible, and you will experience authentic, moving worship in a contemporary style. You will be challenged to grow and participate in a community of people who are genuinely seeking after God.

What does a typical service look like?
The format will vary from week-to-week, so there probably won’t be a typical service. We’ll regularly experience worship through a variety of artistic expressions (music, video and graphic arts, etc.). There will also be a practical, truth-centered message. And we’ll regularly hear real-life stories about how God is changing people’s lives.

What about my children?
We believe in helping families grow together. We offer programming for children, infant through 5th Grade. For more details, please check out the KidzPoint link to your left. You may certainly keep your children with you in the worship service if you like, but we ask you to consider the fact that children will probably benefit more from experiencing worship and teaching at their own level.

What about my teens?
Our teens gather together on Sunday evenings for fun, fellowship and a relevant teaching just for them.  A list of locations and times can be found on our Student Ministry page. BridgePoint is currently looking to fill a full-time Student Ministry position to fulfill the growing needs of our students.

Will any religious beliefs be forced on me?
Absolutely not! BridgePoint is a safe place to begin the journey towards God without any fear that things will be forced down your throat. We are open to your questions, doubts, ideas and dreams. BP is a community of Jesus believers, followers and yes … even doubters.

Who started the church?
BridgePoint was started by a group of people who recognize the incredible need in St. Petersburg for a new church. We live here and know the culture in Tampa Bay and in St. Pete.

Why the name BridgePoint?
A bridge is a connecting structure that joins two things that would otherwise be isolated. We believe that the church is commissioned to bridge over the barriers that isolate us from each other and from God. And now is the time to begin; today’s the day … this is the point where it can all begin.

Speaking of Money…?
Yes, we’re glad you asked. We’re a non-profit organization, so we operate solely on the gifts of members, attenders, and ministry partners. But we also recognize the overemphasis on giving that is often associated with church, so we won’t guilt or pressure anyone to give. We believe that God owns all of our money anyway; not just the part that people give to church. Since God owns it all, we trust that he will give us what we need to operate. We will teach what the Bible says about stewardship and money, and leave your giving between you and God.

In order to make giving to BridgePoint as easy and consistent as possible, we've set up a way to make donations online. Our motivation was to provide a way for people to give that was secure, easy and flexible.

Who can come?
We welcome anyone who’s seeking God, whether you’re skeptical, curious or committed to Christian spirituality. We will encourage everyone to get closer to God, no matter how long you’ve been in the faith. Our belief is that there is no such thing as a spiritual plateau where some of us "arrive” – the journey to Christ-likeness is a life-long process of discovery and growth!

How can I get involved?
There are many ways to get involved, whether it’s joining one of our small groups or whether you’d like to help out. Right now we are forming a variety of groups and teams to serve and in different ways. The best way to begin is to contact us through this web site, and we’ll be in touch with you and get you started.

How will BP meet the needs of our community?
We believe that serving others as a regular and healthy part of our faith (check out the ‘Live’ section of our DNA). So we'll emphasize involvement in the community as a big part of exercising our faith. Whether it’s helping build a Habitat for Humanity house or serving teenage-moms, we’ll help you find a place for you, your family and friends to serve others together.
