How Can I Help?
We encourage you and/or your family to explore ways you can express your crazy love for God during OCL. Pray about it, talk about it and then go crazy! Here are some practical ideas to get you started.
A Family Gift
$300,000 seems huge, but if you break it down a little it seems quite doable. Four offerings over 18 months means that if during each OCL campaign 150 families or individuals will give an average of $500 we will reach our goal. Many will be able to do much more and others will not be able to give that much but the power is in every individual and family connected to BP participating. If that happens we will reach and even exceed our goal.
A Gift a Day
During each campaign we have set aside a period of time where we will receive the offerings. The number of those days varies, but if during those time you will set aside a gift a day, it will add up quickly. For example, our first offering is from December 20th to January 10th. That is 29 days:
$1 a day = $29
$3 a day = $87
$5 a day = $145
$10 a day = $290
Sacrifice a Few Things
Doing without Starbucks a couple of days a week really adds up. Eat out a little less, take a 5-day holiday vacation instead of 7...you get the picture.
End of Year Giving
Two of our OCL offering will take place at the end of the year. Many people can and are looking for opportunities to make generous donations at the end of the year because that is when bonuses are given and company profits distributed. Remember, all OCL gifts are 100% tax deductible.
Donate Stock, Land, etc.
Maybe you have something of significant value you could sell or donate. Land, a house, car, jewelry, etc. are all items that can be donated as your gift or part of your gift. In addition, you can donate stock. BP already has a brokerage account set up to handle these transactions.
Get Creative
Part of the fun of OCL will be seeing how creative people can be. Have a garage sale, bake sale or car wash and donate what you receive. Clean your neighbors pool or mow their yard and ask them to donate to OCL what they would have paid for these services. Get creative and have fun!
% Giving
The most biblical way to give at any time is percentage giving. This allows for unequal gifts but equal sacrifice by those who follow it. Below are some suggestions:
- If you are already giving a tithe (10% of your income to the general budget) you might consider giving 1% more to OCL
- If you are not currently giving to the church consider using OCL as a beginning point. Take a step of faith by giving a percentage of your income. Why not start with 1%? Maybe through OCL God will lead you to become a regular percentage giver to the church.
As always, we ask that all OCL contributions be over and above your regular giving so that the ongoing ministry of BridgePoint continues without interruption.
